Occasionally all infants and children become constipated. Remember, constipation means hard stools, not infrequent stools. If your baby is having hard stools, you can give baby apple or prune juice once a day until stools soften. For a child over one year, you may use a tablespoon of honey or molasses twice a day. These items are pleasant, safe, natural laxatives. Do not use enemas or suppositories unless we direct you to do so. Your child needs to be evaluated in our office if these simple measures do not work. |
