Laceration/Cut

Some lacerations or cuts need to be stitched closed by a qualified health professional. Cuts that are gaping open, have continuous bleeding, and/or located in a place where scarring is a concern usually need to be stitched. Stitches provide several benefits to a cut by bringing the edges of the wound back together. It helps the bleeding to stop and promotes healing with less of a scar.

Homecare

1. Wash cut with 1/2 strength hydrogen peroxide (dilute hydrogen peroxide with water).

2. Apply clean bandage, guaze, or cloth with pressure to stop the bleeding.

3. If cut is gaping open or will not stop bleeding, it probably needs stitches.

We do not routinely do stitches at our office, the best place to go is Columbus Children's Hospital Emergency Room or the nearest hospital or urgent care.

  1. All other cuts can be taken care of at home by applying a clean bandage to cover wound, change it daily or as it gets soiled.
